As is generally known, the many events accompanying the tenth anniversary of UNESCO status for the Dolomites are involving a wide range of players. But interest in this special birthday is, and also will be, at a national level: the Ministry of the Environment wished to be directly involved in coordinating events, recognising that these ten years of successfully managing the Dolomite Heritage is a real source of pride to the nation.
Save the date: Cortina, June 26th
The official celebrations are due to be held in Cortina on June 26th: exactly ten years to the day when the official announcement was made in Seville. Bands from different localities in the World Heritage region will gather to play at Cortina. The complexity and diversity of these territories will also be represented by the range of top quality producers in the UNESCO Dolomites Network. Fifty junior members of the South Tyrol, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino and Veneto mountaineering associations will also be leaving Cortina to spend a week repairing the trails in System 1 – Pelmo Croda da Lago.
This event has been made possible thanks to the active support of the Municipality of Cortina and the Fondazione2021.
The celebrations will continue at San Vigilio di Marebbe
After the official events, the festival will follow. This time, the date for your diary is June 29th, when San Vigilio di Marebbe will be hosting the Dolomites UNESCO Fest: a unique chance to learn more about the World Heritage Site, including its geological and geomorphological features, its local inhabitants and, of course, its culinary specialities.
