Geology of Wonder: the exhibition reaches the Brenta

Promise kept: after the prestigious preview hosted by Palazzo Thun in Trento, as part of the Trento Film Festival, the journey of the exhibition “Dolomites: on a journey through the geology of wonder” has begun. First stop: San Lorenzo Dorsino (TN).

New content

The path is inspired by the “Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail” geological portal, with a close look into the geology of the systems that make up the Dolomites World Heritage Site. For this first leg, the exhibition has also been enhanced with new content, and the environments provided by the Adamello-Brenta Geopark are themselves also worth a visit. In fact, the new Casa del Parco “UO.MO – Leggero come una montagna” (UO.MO – As light as a mountain) houses an exhibition that delves into the relationship between man and mountain: a perfect synthesis, therefore, between the geological and the landscape dimension, the two pillars of the UNESCO recognition.

Bringing communities closer together

The opening ceremony took place on 10 June, on the occasion of the “Park Tuesdays”, and the exhibition will continue until 3 August. The idea behind the layout of the exhibition was precisely to make it into a journey, taking the communities of residents and guests through a path of awareness of the geological values of the Dolomites, thanks to a combination of rigour guaranteed by the Scientific Committee that curated it (geologists Alfio Viganò, Riccardo Tomasoni and Alberto Carton as part of the Dolomites UNESCO Foundation Geological Heritage Network) and the use of a language that is accessible to the general public, as well as evocative photos by Matteo Visintainer and drawings by Davide Bonadonna, all assembled by Biosphaera scs. The hope is to spur, in those who walk the paths of the Dolomites, a greater curiosity for the transformations that have characterised the geological processes and that continue to mould the shapes of valleys, walls, spires, towers, pinnacles. The aesthetic wonder of the Dolomites has a geological matrix; being aware of it strengthens the feeling of being in front of those Outstanding Universal Value that have allowed these mountains to be included in the World Heritage List.

This activity is part of the project “Capacity building. Strengthening the social and regional capital of the Dolomites World Heritage Site (WHS) for lasting and sustainable development of local communities”, established with the support of Fondo Comuni Confinanti.
