The UNESCO Dolomites
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre in Paris has invited the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site to take part in ITB Berlin. The UNESCO Dolomites Foundation will be a co-exhibitor together with the Wattenmeer/Wadden Sea Site, in the themed area dedicated to Sustainable Tourism. The recognition is very important for the Overall Management Strategy of the Dolomites Site and for the projects launched by the Foundation and its Operating Networks for promoting sustainable tourism.
People Protecting Places: the conference
Sustainable tourism in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites is to be the subject of a debate organised jointly by the Secretariat of the Wattenmeer/Wadden Sea Site and the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. Thursday 9 March from 14.00 to 16.30 will be the date for the round-table discussion People Protecting Places: Sustainable Tourism in World Heritage Sites.
World Heritage Sites are often major tourist destinations. Many sites have put together a sustainable tourism strategy, among them the Wattenmeer/Wadden Sea and Dolomites sites. The workshop to be held on Thursday 9 March at ITB Berlin will provide a forum for discussion of sustainable tourism strategies and the different experiences of the WHS serial properties. These two UNESCO sites are both serial properties, making the goal of sustainable governance a more complex issue.
This should prove a stimulating and productive discussion whose participants include Foundation President Mariagrazia Santoro and Director Marcella Morandini.
