
The geology of wonder exhibition lands in Padua
Friday 17 April will see the closing event of the “Dolomites: walking through the geology of wonder” exhibition, promoted by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and inaugurated on 7 March at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua.
The 17th April event will open at 2.30 p.m. with an introduction by Mara Nemela, Director of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, and Marcello Caggiati (University of Padua), and will continue with contributions by Tiziano Abbà (University of Padua, CAI’s Veneto Friulano Giuliano Scientific Committee), Piero Gianolla (University of Ferrara, member of the Foundation’s Scientific Committee), Claudia Morabito (University of Padua), Alberto Riva (University of Ferrara) and Alberto Carton (University of Padua). The focus will be on the geology of the Dolomites, with references to key evolutionary moments, the incidence of geological values in the UNESCO nomination and recognition, specific projects such as those dedicated to the excellences, their 3D representation and the geodatabase and, finally, the current challenges linked to climate change and its impact on the Heritage and on the geological excellences themselves. The event will be open to all, by reservation only.
The exhibition offers a captivating journey through 270 million years of geological history. In addition to installations, narrative panels and interactive modules of the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail, guides made available by the Department of Geosciences have also been included on this occasion, to accompany guests and make the scientific content of the exhibition even more accessible, with explanations tailored to different age groups. The opening ceremony featured: Nicola Surian, Director of the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua; Monica Salvadori, Pro-Rector for Artistic, Historical and Cultural Heritage of the University of Padua; Mara Nemela, Director of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation; Gianfranco Munari, President of CAI Padua; Alberto Carton, lecturer at the University of Padua and member of the Geological Heritage Functional Network of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation; and Piero Gianolla, lecturer at the University of Ferrara and member of the Scientific Committee of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. The exhibition will remain open until 18 April with guided tours on Fridays (5.00 pm – 6.00 pm / 6.00 – 7.00 pm) and Saturdays (9.30 am -10.30 am / 10.00 am-11.00 am / 11.00 am -12.00 pm). Visits are free of charge, by reservation only.
