Training course for local authorities in Friuli to talk about young people

The programme is beginning to take shape for what has become, over the years, a highly anticipated and well received event: the meeting of local administrators from the municipalities involved in the UNESCO recognition and engaged in the management of the Heritage site.

This year, it will take place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October in Claut and Cimolais (PN), at the gateway to the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park (System 4 – Friulian and Oltre Piave Dolomites).

THE VENUE

Following the first edition held in Belluno and the subsequent ones in the Trentino region – first in Primiero San Martino di Castrozza and then in 2024 in Andalo – it is now the turn of Friuli to host administrators and technical experts from across the Dolomites World Heritage Site. On Saturday afternoon, there will be a site visit to the Vajont Dam, to encourage reflection in the field, in light of the events of 9 October 1963.

YOUNG PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE

The aim of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation is to update local administrators on the meaning of the recognition and on the Overall Management Strategy, and to create an opportunity for sharing experiences between the various administrations. It is becoming increasingly clear that achieving these goals requires careful consideration of the role of younger generations. The idea for the 2025 edition is therefore to explore how intergenerational relationships can help shape long-term strategies and practical measures for safeguarding the Heritage Site. The meeting will also be an opportunity for encouraging local authorities to consider ways of promoting the education and involvement of young people in the very institutions and organisations responsible for protecting the territory and, consequently, the World Heritage Site.

REGISTRATION

The course is free of charge and consists of two sessions: on Friday afternoon, there will be keynote talks and discussions in preparation for Saturday, which, as in previous editions, will be dedicated to future-oriented workshops led by SKOPÌA.

The full programme and registration details will soon be available on the Foundation’s website.

This activity is part of the project “Capacity building. Strengthening the social and regional capital of the Dolomites World Heritage Site (WHS) for lasting and sustainable development of local communities”, established with the support of Fondo Comuni Confinanti.
