The goal of “I Live Here” is to motivate secondary-school children to learn about the area in which they live, through initiatives and activities that vary from school to school. The project has been developed in the context of the Education and Scientific Research Network of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, in collaboration with various parties located in the Dolomites.

The educational project “I Live Here” intends to promote active citizenship in a World Heritage Site and promote the knowledge of the territory, as a means to educate people as citizens. To create a suitable learning path, teachers adopt a methodology aimed at recognising, understanding and interpreting basic concepts such as the value of the local area and its resources, and economic and social aspects, with a particular focus on the interaction between nature and human activity, above all in relation to specific landscape contexts. UNESCO status is a great honour that brings great responsibility, and we must bring up citizens who are informed about the World Heritage Site.
We must remember that UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, with education in particular considered a fundamental human right to be protected around the world. It is therefore essential to teach a sense of responsibility, ensuring that our environmental heritage, understood also as the landscapes in which we live, is understood and valued by children, the citizens of the future.
It is very satisfying to see the growing enthusiasm each year of teachers and students at many different schools, who make it possible to keep the “I Live Here” project alive after more than ten years.
